Challenging Behavior

NACCRRA joins efforts with other national associations to provide information on challenging behavior and social/emotional development.

NACCRRA is participating in a project coordinated by The Center for Evidence-Based Practice: Young Children with Challenging Behavior (CEBP) funded by the U.S. Office of Special Education Programs, ED.

The Centers' partnership with NACCRRA and the other Primary Partner Associations has several key objectives.

  • Advance a unified message of the importance of evidence-based practices in the field
  • Extend the social validity of the Centers' finding through the associations

Training modules and Facilitator's Guide to Promoting Social and Emotional Competence. These modules were designed based on input gathered during focus groups with program administrators, T/TA providers, early educators, and family members about the types and content of training that would be most useful in addressing the social-emotional needs of young children. The content of the modules is consistent with evidence-based practices identified through a thorough review of the literature.

The modules can be found at http://www.csefel.uiuc.edu/modules.html and include the following topics:

  • Classroom Preventative Practices: Promoting Children's Success Social-Emotional Teaching Strategies
  • Individualized Intensive Interventions: Determining the Meaning of Challenging Behavior
  • Individualized Intensive Interventions: Developing a Behavior Support Plan
  • Leadership Strategies for Supporting Children's Social and Emotional Development and Addressing Challenging Behavior
